i like pretending its an era i was barely around to remember. the year is 2004 and i am in the basement of the university library at 2 in the morning. there is no one else there except for a janitor and the librarian, none of us are paying attention to each other. im sitting at a table against the wall, there are three books in front of me and im taking notes as fast as i can. my headphones are over my ears, my walkman is playing the new thermals album. i cant sleep. youre there too, and i dont notice you at first, but we both look queer enough that we can both tell when i turn my head and we lock eyes for a brief moment. maybe next time ill have the courage to ask your name or your email.
